Join us every month as we show some of our favorite cult films, individually picked by our own State Theatre staff. Jennifer Lopez stars in this biopic about Grammy-winning recording artist Selena Quintanilla. Selena, a Texas-born Tejano singer, rose from cult status to performing at the Astrodome, as well as having chart-topping albums on the Latin music charts. Unfortunately, her career was cut short when she was murdered by the president of her fan club on March 31, 1995. Instead of focusing on this tragic event, the film follows the talented singer’s rise to fame, focusing on her family and relationships. “Selena succeeds, through Lopez's performance, in evoking the magic of a sweet and talented young woman.”-Roger Ebert of the Chicago Sun-Times
